Who am I? I’m a former professional dancer turned U.S. Army Reservist turned data scientist. I earned my bachelor’s in Economics from UNLV (not quite as wild as it sounds) and later found my way back to grad school a few times — including earning a master’s in Data Science from UVA.
What is this site? This is where I experiment with analytic methods — mostly quantitative, but not exclusively. My work often focuses on uncertainty, risk, geopolitics, and decision-making, as well as the art and science of intelligence analysis.
What do I do here? Throughout my career I’ve bounced between qualitative and quantitative approaches, leveraging whichever tool seemed appropriate (or just fun). Keeping a foot in both worlds led me to explore how we can use the deep insights of subject matter experts (qualitative in nature) to better inform data analysis. Sometimes I look for ways to encode SME intuition into quantitative methods. Other times, I try to show how statistical reasoning can strengthen qualitative work. And sometimes, I just want to play with data models.
Let me be clear: I don’t claim that what I post here would pass academic muster. Think of it more like stumbling into a private workshop or studio. I strive to be thoughtful and thorough, but you won’t find peer-reviewed publications here (and let’s be honest, that process has its critics these days).
